Gospel Jn 3:31-36
He who comes from above is above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks in an earthly way. He who comes from heaven is above all. He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, yet no one receives his testimony. Whoever receives his testimony sets his seal to this, that God is true. For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure. The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
Reflection
John says that Christ must increase and I must decrease, because Christ is the eternal Word of God-existing with God in the beginning-indeed, came to this earth to reveal, testify, and witness to that which he had seen and heard in the presence of God from all eternity. John came to prepare the way for the Lord so others may be led towards the real bridegroom, Jesus. Jesus says in Jn17:25, “O righteous Father, the world has not known you, but I have known you, and these know that you have sent me”. Do we believe in the testimony of Jesus, His truthfulness and His Spirit-filled authority over all humanity? Am I able to say He must increase and I must decrease in all my activity by giving glory to God?
