 Gospel Mk 6:53-56

When Jesus and his disciples had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored to the shore. And when they got out of the boat, the people immediately recognized him and ran about the whole region and began to bring the sick people on their beds to wherever they heard he was. And wherever he came, in villages, cities, or countryside, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and implored him that they might touch even the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched it were made well.

Reflections:

The gospel depicts a deep relation of Jesus and the people of Gennesaret. Their faith has saved them from their sickness as the edge of the cloak symbolizes Jesus’ unending grace. The longing and desire for healing moves people to rush and follow Jesus. They go to towns, valleys and marketplaces, begging that they might touch the fringe of his cloak. They carry on mats those who are unable to walk. These people should become a model for us to present our lives before Jesus and trust in Him. Is there something we are carrying that may not be obvious to anyone else? Perhaps we can recognize our need for prayer in this situation and furthermore to walk with others in this journey of life. No matter where we find ourselves, we are in need of healing.

Activity:

Do I see Jesus in others? How closely does our life resemble Jesus’ life?    Identify someone in need of healing and help her or him to touch Jesus.
