Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, The Octave Day of Christmas , 1 Jan 2023
Gospel Lk 2:16-21
The shepherds went in haste to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph,
and the infant lying in the manger.
When they saw this,
they made known the message
that had been told them about this child.
All who heard it were amazed
by what had been told them by the shepherds.
And Mary kept all these things,
reflecting on them in her heart.
Then the shepherds returned,
glorifying and praising God
for all they had heard and seen,
just as it had been told to them.
When eight days were completed for his circumcision,
he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel
before he was conceived in the womb.
Reflections :
“Mary kept all these things in her heart and pondered them.” This profoundly reveals the heart of Mary that treasured the sublime mystery surrounding the birth of her God-Son; and the mystery that intertwined her own life from the moment of her ‘Fiat’. What is it in our heart that we ponder? What captivates us enough to orient our whole life in alignment to it? Is it an event, a person or an encounter that turns us around? In today’s fast-paced life, no one has the time to stop and ponder. We are constantly gearing ourselves towards the next, even while living the present. The Gospel invites us today, to ponder over our gifts along with the task, our joys and sorrows, and God’s powerful hand over it all after the example of Mary, the mother of God and our mother..
Action Plan:
Find an oasis of quiet time to recognise and ponder over God’s work in your own life.
