 Gospel Lk 19: 41-44

As Jesus drew near Jerusalem,

he saw the city and wept over it, saying,

“If this day you only knew what makes for peace –

but now it is hidden from your eyes.

For the days are coming upon you

when your enemies will raise a palisade against you;

they will encircle you and hem you in on all sides.

They will smash you to the ground and your children within you,

and they will not leave one stone upon another within you

because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”

Reflections:

What makes for peace? Unless we are open to it, the solutions towards peace remain hidden from our eyes, in any situation. Here it seems like Jesus is pondering over a deep spiritual truth, which also seems today as a political truth!  Let us take the first step, by working towards peace in our own lives. Unless we take concrete steps towards living a peaceful life, our enemies will find ways to crush us, because if we are not at peace, it means that we are having some relational issues with those who will soon become our enemies, if they are not already!
