Gospel : Lk 19:45-48

Jesus entered the temple area and proceeded to drive out

those who were selling things, saying to them,

“It is written,

My house shall be a house of prayer,

but you have made it a den of thieves.”

And every day he was teaching in the temple area.

The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people, meanwhile,

were seeking to put him to death,

but they could find no way to accomplish their purpose

because all the people were hanging on his words.

Reflections:

It is obvious that prayer is a priority for Jesus. The environment conducive to prayer therefore is also important to him. The house which was built for prayer and worship, had lost relevance for the people, even the custodians of it. They had delegated its care to others, who seemed irresponsible, as it had become "a den of thieves". Our persons are also temples of the Holy Spirit. So before we look at our places of worship, in order to judge the custodians, let us look within and see, how our personal spirits have given in to "thievery" and sin. From the house of prayer, and indwelling of the spirit, have we made ourselves "dens of thieves" ?

Activity:

Decide and begin to make an examen of daily life, before you go to bed! Instead of your last thought or sight being the smartphhone, let it be of your spiritual life. Who knows you may not wake the next day!!
