Saturday, 15 October - Memorial of St Teresa of Jesus, Virgin and Doctor of the Church

 Gospel: Lk 12: 8-12

Jesus said to his disciples:

“I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before others

the Son of Man will acknowledge before the angels of God.

But whoever denies me before others, will be denied before the angels of God.

“Everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven,

but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.

When they take you before synagogues and before rulers and authorities,

do not worry about how or what your defense will be or about what you are to say.

For the Holy Spirit will teach you at that moment what you should say.”

Reflections:

What is the unforgivable sin, Jesus is talking about?  To blaspheme against the Holy Spirit! All of us are inspired or guided daily by the Holy Spirit, speaking to us through our conscience. It tells us the right thing to do. There are some persons who harden their heart, who numb their ear to their conscience. This leads to a loss of sense of sin, and boldly acknowledge all grave offences acceptable for themselves and others. Sins like murder, abortion are becoming common today, and those who do not feel the pain of the victims, seem to have lost the sense of sin, and seem to in a way blaspheme against the Holy Spirit.

Activity: Harden not your hearts today, but listen to the voice of the Lord
